The Lookback Window was named a best book of the year. These lists are deeply subjective, but it’s nice to be on there with my friend Cleo Qian, who wrote Let’s Go Let’s Go Let’s Go, which is an amazing collection of stories.
In preparation for the Miami Book Fair, I’ve been re-reading all of Andrew Holleran’s work. I was deeply moved by the Kingdom of Sand, a meditation on getting older, death, grieving, and sex.
Also, I read two amazing novels that won’t be out until next year. Megan Nolan’s Ordinary Human Failings and Craig Willse’s Providence. More soon on those.
In the New Yorker, new Emma Cline about Airbnbs and vacationers. My students all love Emma Cline, and this mystifying story had the entire class talking.
